North Korea has carried out repeated missile tests in recent months and this week organised a huge military drill involving hundreds of soldiers and artillery units. Kim Jong-un himself
frequently promises to destroy his enemies, vowing to reduce Japan, for example, “to debris” earlier this year. He has made similar claims against the US and South Korea. But despite these
repeated sabre-rattling declarations Kim’s hermit kingdom has now claimed it is the most peaceful on earth. He blasted the US and South Korea, who he said were the forces truly behind the

peninsula and the region. “The US has to understand that it is not only the US that is invested with option, and it should be serious in making the final option at a crucial moment decisive
of the destiny of the American empire.” SOUTH KOREA HOLD MILITARY DRILLS AS TENSIONS RISE WITH NORTH KOREA “The army and people of the DPRK will bolster up the nuclear deterrence for justice
in every way to foil the US high-handed and arbitrary practices and thus more reliably defend the sovereignty of the country, the right to existence of the nation and the peace and security
of the Korean peninsula and the region.” GETTY Kim Jong-un celebrating a missile strike with security officials It comes just weeks after Kim promised to deliver peace to the region - but
