Charmaine Roberts (played by Lauren Hammersley) has quickly become one of Virgin River’s most hated characters over the course of the first two seasons. However, the Canadian star explained
this may not have been the case had the Netflix adaptation kept to Robyn Carr’s original descriptions. Principal Virgin River actress Lauren Hammersley has confirmed her role as Charmaine
Roberts underwent a number of changes from the source material. Based on Robyn Carr’s small-town romance novels, Charmaine was first introduced as a friend with benefits for Jack Sheridan
(Martin Henderson), one of the series’ two romantic leads. Charmaine quickly became fans’ least favourite character in the series, as she made frequent efforts to get between Mel Monroe
(Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack’s budding romance. However, this may not have always been the case, as Hammersley detailed in a recent interview with TVLine. READ MORE: VIRGIN RIVER: IS
VIRGIN RIVER A REAL PLACE? Virgin River’s tactic for the TV series certainly worked, as Charmaine has already caused a number of problems for Jack and Mel so far. Season one famously ended
with the shocking revelation of Charmaine’s pregnancy with Jack’s baby. If that wasn’t enough, the second season had Charmaine discover she was pregnant with twins, forcing her to seriously
assess what she wanted from life in Virgin River. Hammersley explained: “She’s got these shattered relationships, and I don’t think a lot of them are her fault, so I feel compassion for
Charmaine. “And now she’s pregnant, and the guy who did that to her is off with another woman. So that sucks.” Their ongoing love triangle has even caused a rift in the town, with some
residents either supporting #TeamMel or #TeamCharmaine. The star shared no spoilers for the upcoming third season, which Netflix recently confirmed, though did express one simple wish for
Charmaine by the end of the series. On the future of the series, she said: “I just hope that Charmaine ends up happy.” Hopefully Charmaine can find a way to achieve that without getting in
the way of Jack and Mel yet again, though some fans have even proposed she was the one who shot Jack at the end of season two. _VIRGIN RIVER SEASON 2 IS AVAILABLE TO STREAM ON NETFLIX._
