This Is Going To Hurt returns to BBC One next week and the heartbreaking yet uplifting series is based on Adam Kay's memoir. Ben Whishaw takes on the role of the overworked junior


doctor, who takes on a new colleague, Shruti (Ambika Mod). The producers of the series explained to Express.co.uk and other press why the two stars did not talk off-screen. This Is Going To


Hurt offers a candid look at the pressures on healthcare workers in various sectors. With a focus on the obstetrics and gynaecology department, viewers see how Adam and his colleagues are


pushed to their limits. Looking after women's sexual and reproductive health, they have a huge responsibility. Adam faces further pressure when he is forced to oversee a new member of

was something the stars talked about, Mod and Whishaw sat in silence and smiled. Whishaw was the first to respond with a simple "no" before offering an explanation. He said:


"I talked to Lucy [Forbes - director] a lot and I'm sure Ambika talked to Lucy a lot. "But we didn't talk together that much, sometimes that doesn't really help

"Because you want to feel that... Ambika feeling a bit scared opposite Ben in the first few days is a good thing. "This is all stuff to lean into. Their friendship progresses as


the series goes on as it did on set." In the first episode, Adam invited Shruti to help him with a complex surgical procedure. However, he ended up losing the patient and remains
