Manchester United supremo Ed Woodward has clarified comments that went down badly with fans. The Red Devils chief is a divisive figure at Old Trafford, with some accusing him being more
focused on helping the club make a profit rather than win trophy on the pitches. “If I answer that just very simply and candidly, playing performance doesn’t really have a meaningful impact
on what we can do on the commercial size of the business," he said. That prompted many to accuse the United chief of not having the club's interest at heart. But Woodward, speaking
to United We Stand, has insisted that the team is focused on winning trophies and delivering success on the pitch. "You mentioned earlier about regrets," he said. "One is how
that quote came across. It was an answer to a specific question from an analyst. "What I meant was that sponsorships are long-term deals. They don't go up and down based on
playing performance. "They're long-term fixed contracts. That's what I meant but it was taken out of context of what it was. "It makes it difficult to do earnings calls
for me, but we're on the stock exchange and have to do them. "Regardless of what happens on the commercial side what happens on the pitch matters most. We have to win."
Woodward also claimed United were undergoing a 'cultural reboot' and that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is still the right man for the job. “Winning; playing attacking football with players
that have an 'x-factor'; and giving youth a chance," he said when asked to open up on the project. "Added to that, we want players to come in who respect their
team-mates, the club, the history. “They must understand they are creating a legacy by coming to Manchester United . Nobody is bigger than the club. There should be both a humbleness and an
arrogance. "Ole has brought a lot of the discipline back. Whatever manager we have has to buy into that philosophy and Ole is a walking, talking version of that. Let's play this
out with Ole in terms of the cultural reboot. “It [appointing Solskjaer permanently] wasn't pivotal to it [finishing top four] one way or another. "I want to take a long-term view
— Ole was hired with the long-term view that he will be successful."
