Recently, I had a delightful Tuesday wandering around the quaint seaside town of Rye in East Sussex. If you're looking to avoid the hustle and bustle, a weekday is an ideal time to

stroll down the renowned cobbled path of Mermaid Street. With its medieval, half-timbered houses, it's a perfect spot for a photo-op, especially when there aren't crowds of people

obstructing the view. Local attractions include the National Trust's Lamb House, a Grade II-listed 19th-century residence where celebrated authors Henry James and E. F. Benson once

lived. For those with a passion for history, Ypres Tower, a castle turned museum that once served as a prison, is worth a visit. However, as I soon found out, Tuesday might be a tad too

early in the week to fully experience all that Rye has to offer. Some shops don't open until Thursday, when more tourists are expected, but there's a nearby beach that remains

accessible all year round. Camber Sands Beach, merely a 10-minute drive from Rye town centre, is a "Blue Flag" beach boasting over two miles of golden sand. If you plan on visiting

Rye during the weekend, it's advisable to arrive early (parking at Rye Cattle Market is a bargain at just £1.50 for the entire day). Bear in mind, however, that this car park is closed

on Thursdays due to the local market. Fortunately, there are plenty of other parking options, such as The Strand Car Park and Rope Street Car Park. The car parks are all within a short walk

from the main high street, where there are independent art galleries and shops waiting to be explored. Then there's the renowned Waterworks Micropub, along with a host of eateries to

enjoy in the town. The area also boasts an ice cream parlour, coffee shops and Knoops – a perfect spot for a finely crafted chocolate drink whilst wandering around. Rye is a charming little

town best explored on foot and, if you're up for it, a 10-minute drive to Camber Sands is the perfect way to round off an afternoon. With the car park open until 8pm, it's the

ideal spot to bask in the sun, take a dip in the water, and head home when you feel like it.
