A reported target for Liverpool last summer has been made available it seems. Liverpool and other Premier League sides might be interested in a report from Spain. According to Marca,
Atletico Madrid have decided to let Gelson Martins leave the club, having only joined last summer. Liverpool were linked with a move for the Portugal international last summer [The Echo],
having also been credited with an interest way back in 2017. And should Jurgen Klopp finally bring him to Anfield? It clearly hasn’t worked out in Spain for the former Sporting star, but
he’s still only 23 and a man-manager of Klopp’s talents could bring him to the next level. Martins has been described as the new Cristiano Ronaldo by Benfica’s president [Sapo] in the past
and although a lot of players have been given that label, nobody has ever really lived up to it. There is nothing to suggest that hundreds of goals and five Ballon d’Or awards await the
former Sporting star if he finds the right coach. But the Liverpool boss is known for getting the very best out of his players and if Atletico are looking for a reasonable amount, why
shouldn’t the Reds take another look? MORE LIVERPOOL STORIES Some fans of the Anfield club might argue that he isn’t needed, but Klopp is only one injury to Mo Salah or Sadio Mane away from
needing him very badly and hedging his bets is the smart move. Monaco, according to Marca, are serious about signing him, but so should Liverpool if their previous interest is accurate.
