EUROPEAN SUMMER HOLIDAYS ARE INCREDIBLY POPULAR AMONG BRITS 15:03, 23 May 2025 Spain is the most popular destination for holiday-going Brits, followed closely by France, Italy, Greece, and
Portugal. While the cost-of-living is making it harder for people to go abroad or save for a holiday, there are small changes you can make to how you book and plan your trip to save some
cash, an expert has revealed. One way that people heading to those European destinations could save money by being more flexible with the length of their trip. Karen Williams of Eurocamp
explained: "There are lots of holiday providers that don't have fixed departure or arrival days, so you can have complete flexibility over your travel dates." She said, per
Birmingham Live, that you should “have a play around with the length of your trip by a few nights either way”. Ms Williams added: “If you're flying, choose a duration that allows you to
get the best flight prices.” Article continues below It is also worth seeking alternative transport options to save money. The expert said: "Whether it is putting the family in the car
and hitting the motorways for a cross-country road trip, or opting for rail travel, looking for different modes of transport can get you some serious savings." Holiday homes can be
another great way to cut down on costs, as this allows you to split the price between friends or family members also staying there. Most allow you to book the accommodation for a fixed
price, rather than per person. Avoiding the standard fortnights, seven-day, or ten-day breaks is one of Ms Williams’ best tips for keeping things cost-effective. She said: "Looking at
earlier or later in the season can help to keep costs down. For those travelling with children, look for the latter weeks of the school holidays running up to September which tend to be
cheaper than the main part of the school holidays.” Another factor to consider when travelling during these months is location. For example, if you’re hoping for sun, southern Europe is
slightly hotter than the northern regions. Ms Williams explained: “So you can enjoy the beautiful outdoors even during off-peak months.” Article continues below She also discussed meal times
whilst on holiday, saying: "You don't need to go out to enjoy a good, filling meal and instead taste some local delicacies from the comfort of your own holiday home. "You can
even pack and bring your own food to your holiday home to ensure that the kids have all their favourite snacks.” And what can you do when it comes to planning next year’s holiday? "For
the super organised, many travel providers will be bringing out their 2024 holidays over the coming months, so keeping an eye out for these can also help you save for next year too."
