15:01, 25 Jul 2022 Millions of benefits claimants will soon know how much their payments will go up by - and soaring inflation means increases could be pretty big. The Department for Work


and Pensions (DWP) will soon decide how much to increase many benefits by from the new tax year in April 2023. We should know their plans by November 2022. But normally benefits including


Universal Credit, Personal Independence Payment, Housing Benefit and Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) go up based on inflation. The DWP normally looks at inflation in the year to


September then puts up benefits by that figure from the following April. Higher food and petrol prices have pushed inflation up to a 40-year high of 9.4% in June, the latest figures show.


Article continues below The Bank of England thinks inflation could go even higher this year, to around 11%. But around 31million people are on benefits that tend to go up with inflation, the


LIVERPOOL ECHO REPORTS. So while high inflation means we are paying more now for things like ENERGY BILLS, food and petrol, in the long run it is better news for claimants. As it stands,
