ABSTRACT Six clinopyroxene–almandine granulite facies xenoliths have been analysed for major, trace and rare earth elements. Preliminary microprobe analyses suggest an origin near the base
of the crust at temperatures of 660–830 °C and pressures > 9 kbar. Major element analyses indicate minimal chemical variation from a basaltic composition while the trace and rare earth
