response to arterial hypertension. However, Cristina García-Cáceres and colleagues have demonstrated that obesity-induced hypothalamic microvascular remodelling precedes increases in blood


pressure and contributes to arterial hypertension. The researchers showed that leptin signalling, not adiposity, was important for hypothalamic microvascular remodelling. Leptin-deficient


obese mice (_Lep_ob/ob) had normal levels of hypothalamic microvascular density compared with non-obese controls. In addition, treating _Lep_ob/ob mice with exogenous leptin or
