Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader T Harish Rao hit out at Telangana Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy for claiming that the Congress government was unable to complete the Sitarama Lift
Irrigation Project due to pending clearances. Harish accused the Congress of misleading the public, asserting that most clearances were already in place. Addressing the media on Sunday, May
11, Harish said that the Central Water Commission (CWC) and the Hydrology Department had already granted approvals for the project. “90% of the Sitarama project’s construction was completed
during the BRS tenure,” he claimed. The Sitarama Lift Irrigation Project is intended to supply water for agriculture in the districts of Khammam, Bhadradri Kothagudem, and Mahabubabad.
Harish added that a detailed project report had been submitted in 2018 and that all required clearances had been obtained, except for the one from the Technical Advisory Committee. “Instead
of sabotaging the project with baseless allegations, Uttam Kumar Reddy should focus on completing the remaining work,” Harish said. He also alleged that the Congress government had tried to
stall the project by filing cases before the National Green Tribunal and by delaying environmental clearances.
