ACCESS ALL AREASThe West Australian She may have been born and bred in Perth but Melissa George has revealed she has had some trouble finding her Australian accent again. George moved

overseas after she left Home and Away more than a decade ago and recently came back to Australia to film the ABC television adaptation of Christos Tsiolkas' best-selling novel The Slap

in Melbourne. While promoting her latest film Swinging with the Finkels in Britain, the actress told British newspaper Metro she had to use a dialect coach to find her Aussie accent again.

"I spent time before The Slap to get back to doing an Australian accent," she said. "They had a dialect coach to help me get it right but it came back after five days.

I've been living in America for 14 years, most of my adult life, so I needed some help." Speaking about The Slap, which also stars Alex Dimitriades and Sophie Lowe, the 34-year-old

said she was looking forward to seeing the public's reaction to the series, airing later this year, because of its controversial content matter. "I play the mother of the child

who is belted at a barbecue and I know exactly who that woman was because, if someone hit my baby, I'd go mental," she said. "I brought that to the screen. I got great

feedback. I've been told people feel her pain. "I must say I agreed with everything the character did. "I was with friends over Christmas who'd all read the book and they

spent an hour arguing about it. I sat back and thought: 'This project is going to be great'." GET THE LATEST NEWS FROM THEWEST.COM.AU IN YOUR INBOX. Sign up for our emails
