THE SEASON MAY HAVE JUST FINISHED BUT THERE ARE PLENTY OF BIG EVENTS ON THE HORIZON FOR NEWCASTLE UNITED 06:50, 03 Jun 2025 You shouldn't wish away the summer, but Newcastle United fans
can be forgiven for counting down the days until the middle of August and the start of the new Premier League season. With a Champions League campaign to look forward to, the anticipation
that comes with the thought of new signings to be unveiled, and more domestic trophies to fight for, it's an exciting time to follow the Magpies. The current squad have only just jetted
out on their summer break, or to link up with their respective countries ahead of the June internationals, but thoughts have firmly turned to next season and what should be a fascinating
campaign. Eddie Howe's side will have a minimum of eight Champions League games to play, while they will be determined to defend the Carabao Cup and having a crack at the FA Cup after
experiencing the joys at Wembley last March. However, there is plenty to look forward to in what should be an enthralling summer on Tyneside - and not just on the transfer front. There are
several key dates to look out for as the seeds of the new season are planted in the coming weeks. Here are some of the dates for your diary. PREMIER LEAGUE FIXTURES RELEASED Newcastle may be
looking upwards these days, but let's be honest, we'll all be looking for when Eddie Howe's men face Sunderland. The Black Cats return to the top flight for the first time in
eight years, and all eyes will be on when the derbies fall at St James' Park and the Stadium of Light. We don't have to wait long to find out. The fixtures will be released at 9am
on WEDNESDAY, JUNE 18 - and as always you can see them first here on ChronicleLive. TRANSFER WINDOW CLOSES - AND OPENS It's already open! But don't forget the current trading
period lasts until JUNE 10 before the window will close again due to the Club World Cup. However, it will reopen on MONDAY, JUNE 16 for the rest of the summer. It's something of a moot
point for Newcastle, who can sign players at any stage, but can only register new additions when the window is open, but with no games scheduled until July, it effectively makes no
difference. Article continues below PSR CHECK Newcastle are confident there will be no 'panic' deals this time around with financial statements needing to be submitted to the
Premier League by JUNE 30. Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh had to be sold this time last year to meet the profit and sustainability rules, but United are in a different stage of the
three-year cycle now and should not need to be overly concerned. PAUL MITCHELL LEAVES JUNE 30 will also see sporting director Paul Mitchell leave Newcastle United after his exit was mutually
agreed last month. The former Southampton and Monaco chief has had a frustrating year at the club, with financial restrictions meaning he was never able to use his influence to land a top
target. He did help negotiate deals to sell Lloyd Kelly and Miguel Almiron, however, and could be in line for a quick return to football, with a move to Saudi side Al-Hilal in the pipeline.
CONTRACTS EXPIRES It's going to be a busy day. JUNE 30 is the day contacts expire, although in reality it will be just the full stop on the end of two Newcastle United careers. Callum
Wilson is set to leave as thing stand, with the No 9 enjoying five seasons at St James' Park and some incredible moments. Things didn't quite work out for Jamal Lewis, however, and
the left-back will depart having last played for Newcastle in 2023. SQUAD RETURNS TO TRAINING Those not involved in international fixtures are expected back in training in Benton in early
July, although no official date has yet been revealed. With only June friendlies, the club's international stars are expected back soon afterwards, although Lewis Miley is involved in
the European U19 Championship finals. The first days usually consists of fitness tests and assessments before the real hard work gets under way. NEW AWAY KIT LAUNCHED Newcastle have already
unveiled their new adidas home kit for next season, with the Magpies wearing the new design for the final game against Everton in May. There is no official date for the release of the away
and third kits, but last year saw the famous away strip launch in early August, with the third kit unveiled in July. FIRST PRE-SEASON FRIENDLY United will kick off their pre-season schedule
with a friendly against Celtic in Glasgow on SATURDAY, JULY 19 (3pm), which could be the first chance to see any new stars in action. Following the game at Celtic Park, United will head out
to the Far East, facing Arsenal in Singapore and Tottenham in South Korea, plus a game with a K-League All Stars XI. More friendly dates, including this year's Sela Cup fixtures, are
expected to be announced in the coming weeks. PREMIER LEAGUE STARTS The 2025-26 Premier League season will get under way on the weekend of SATURDAY, AUGUST 16, with the first game
potentially played on the evening of FRIDAY, AUGUST 15. There will likely be two Sunday fixtures and a Monday night match, with the opening weekend always a highlight of the calendar.
Newcastle have not had an away fixture on the first weekend since 2020, when they beat West Ham 2-0 at the London Stadium. CHAMPIONS LEAGUE DRAW August will also see the draw made for the
all-imortant Champions League fixtures. All 36 sides compete in one group stage, with each team facing two opponents from each of the four ranked pots. The remaining qualification games will
take place over the summer, with the draw held at UEFA headquarters on THURSDAY, AUGUST 28. We can't wait either. TRANSFER WINDOW CLOSES At last, the authorities have seen sense and
the transfer window will now close at the much more civilised time of 7pm on MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 1. Hopefully Newcastle's business will be done and dusted before then . . . but you can
never rule out some late drama. Article continues below FIRST CHAMPIONS LEAGUE MATCH The games will come thick and fast for Newcastle this autumn, and with eight Champions League matches to
fit, there's little room for delay. The first fixtures will be played over three days, starting TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 16 TO THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 18. TREASURE A SEASON TO REMEMBER Newcastle
