Toto Wolff insists Red Bull remain a ‘formidable’ force in Formula One despite their seismic drop in form. However, the Mercedes chief believes his rivals could be beaten to the

Constructors’ Championship by McLaren. Red Bull’s RB20 has struggled for performance in recent months, prompting Max Verstappen to label it ‘undriveable’ after the Italian Grand Prix. The

Dutchman’s previously unassailable lead in the Drivers’ Championship has now been reduced to just a 62-point lead over Lando Norris. McLaren have also entered the picture for the

constructors’ prize and now sit eight points behind Red Bull in the leaderboard. Wolff expects McLaren to surpass Christian Horner’s team but the Austrian was surprisingly admirable of Red

Bull’s recent successes. “It is really weird. I have no insight obviously but that is not at all the Red Bull at the start of the year – dominant,” he said. “I think that Max was able to

keep it going for a while with his ability, but it seems now that [the pace has gone] from the sheer results - and that is what I see without understanding or knowing what is going on inside

- because it could be a blip, also. “[Monza] was probably one of the worst races that we have seen for many years, to have no pace. But who am I to say that? We had two years where nothing

functioned, and it was the same with Ferrari a few races ago. “So I don’t think you can write them off, they are a formidable team and I’m sure there will be better races, but McLaren is

clearly the favourite now for the constructors' championship, they have two drivers scoring and I bet Red Bull didn’t expect that at the beginning of the year." Verstappen is

concerned that both championships could disappear from Red Bull’s grasp if they do not fix a ‘balance’ issue with their car. He slammed the RB20 as ‘undriveable’ and said it is like driving

a ‘monster’. “The car is undriveable, it’s a massive balance problem that we have, and that is not only over one lap but also the race,” Verstappen said. “Last year we had a great car, which

was the most dominant car ever, and we basically turned it into a monster.” The reigning three-time world champion added: “It doesn’t matter where we are [racing] at the moment, we are bad

everywhere, so we need a lot of changes. At the moment both championships are not realistic.”
